Determination of operating parameters of turbines for micro hydroelectric power plants for optimal use of hydropower

Abstract: Energy trends have been mostly focused on renewable energy sources in recent years. In the world, about 20% of electricity is produced using energy of water flows, ie. hydropower with a total installed power of 720 GW. The production of hydroelectric power has a number of advantages from fossil fuels or nuclear energy and the greatest is that it does not pollute the environment. In mountainous areas, small and micro hydro power plants are often used, which can be installed on small rivers or streams with littl… Show more

“…However, the utilization of low head micro hydropower installations presents an appealing and efficient approach for generating electricity, particularly in rural, remote, and hilly regions. This is due to the escalating levels of greenhouse gas emissions and fuel prices in such areas, rendering these micro hydropower systems increasingly favored for deployment along small rivers [10][11][12][13][14].…”

“…It was observed the runner diameter by 1.25 m, hub diameter 0.3 m. do Nascimento et al [12] investigated the performance of an Indalma hydro turbine (small hydroelectric plants (CERPCH/UNIFEI-MG-Brazil).). It was observed the 80.8% efficiency at flow rate of 0.012 m 3 /s Prodanovic et al [13] studied the determination of operating parameters of turbine for micro hydroelectric power plant for optimal use of hydropower. It was stated that the higher head means a low discharge is required for same output power and efficiency.…”
