“…The former concentration. level was close to that evaluated as a limit of determination of nitrophenols by CZE itself [18] for the same configuration of the CZE equipment as used in this work. This concentration level was chosen as it enabled us to perform comparative CZE experiments while developing the ITP pretreatment procedure.…”

“…Nitrophenols listed by the US Environmental Protection Agency in the group of priority phenol pollutants were separated by MEKC [15] and by capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE) [ 161. Recently, the separation potential of CZE for nitrophenols was investigated in details [17, 181. Here, using the CZE columns of 300 vm ID sample injection volumes could be enhanced so that concentration LODs in the range of 20-80 ppb were achieved for current photometric absorbance detection [18]. Such LOD values are linked with 200-800 ppb limits of quantitation [19] and, therefore, CZE often cannot be used directly for the determination of nitrophenols at concentrations of environmental or ecotoxicological relevance (see, e.g., [l-lo]).…”

“…2 illustrate also this aspect of the developed CZE procedure. In this context, we should note that such reproducibilities required that an adequate attention is paid to the minimization of fluctuations in the compositions and pH of the background electrolyte solutions due to carbon dioxide [49]. Means employed to reach such conditions are described in Section 2.4.…”

“…13 Although sensitive and selective, these methods depend on multi-step sample clean-up procedures and are, therefore, generally time-consuming and require skilled personnel. Electrochemical method, which can offer fast, simple and direct real time analysis is one of the most used techniques in the determination of phenolic compounds.…”
