Determination of Morphological Characteristics of Some Prominent Tomato Genotypes

Abstract: This study was carried out to determine some morphological characteristics of 94 tomato genotypes at the S4 level and to reveal the relationships between these materials. In the study, leaf attitude, leaf length, leaf width, number of flowers, fruit color, fruit weight, fruit width, fruit length, the thickness of pericarp, fruit shape, fruit diameter, number of locules, and total soluble solid content (TTSC) were measured and observed in these genotypes. As a result of the phenotypic assessment, the maximum … Show more

“…It is noted that the expected genetic improvement as a percentage of the average trait ranged between16.388% for traits beta-carotene and 76.627% for the average fruit weight, it was highly valued of all traits except beta-carotene, it was explaining through these results, it is possible to expect a genetic improvement of these traits the following election cycles. Some researchers have obtained similar results to results above and them [11,12,13] it is concluded from the relationship between Components of phenotypic variance (genetic and environmental) fin heritance in the broad sense and the expected genetic improvement as a percentage that their values were in line with each other is an indication of the strong relationship between them, and therefore, through this strong relationship between them, the expected genetic improvement in the next electoral cycles can be predicted coming through phenotypic variance and expected genetic improvement as a percentageIn such cases quantitative selection can be achieved mass selection the aim required to improve the crop. These results show the possibility of benefitting from pure lines in hybridisation education programs that are concerned with improving the studied qualities.…”

“…Since tomato is rich in terms of color diversity, it is natural to have these differences within and among studies. According to the results of a similar study by Kayak et al (2022), 1.06% of the genotypes were light pink, 39.36% were pink, 22.3% were light red, 35.1% were red, 2.1% were dark red. Jin et al (2019) determined that 57.72% of their genotypes were red and 36.42% were pink.…”

“…Salim et al (2020) reported 59.09% of their observed genotypes as horizontal, 27.27% as semi-upright and 13.64% as semi-drooping. Kayak et al (2022) determined that 43.6% of the genotypes they examined had semidrooping, 47.8% had horizontal and 8.5% had semi-upright leaves. Kal et al (2020) reported 43% shortleaved, 31% medium, and 26% long leaved genotypes within their observed pool of materials.…”

“…Yapılan çalışmalarda farklı sonuçlar elde edilmiştir. Kayak ve Türkmen [11] 192 adet kavun hattında yaptıkları çalışmada; %66,1 derin beş loblu, %26,5 beş loblu, %7,2 tam olarak tespit edilmiştir. Erdoğan [7], göller bölgesinden topladığı 94 adet yerel genotipte %67'si tam, %5,3'ü üç loblu, %8,5'i beş loblu, %16'sı üç loblu ve %3,2'si de diğer grupta yer aldığını belirtmiştir.…”
