In this study, Çöloğlu, Hacıhaliloğlu, Kabaaşı and Karacabey apricot species grown in Malatya province of Turkey were used. The effects of various drying environment on the drying kinetics of crude and pre-treated apricots have been investigated. The experiments were conducted in the sunlight and in the shade environment with SO2 treated and untreated apricot. While the drying speed curves of the dried apricots increased rapidly at the beginning, the drying speed curve started to decrease afterwards. The data was fitted to five different mathematical models. Midilli et al. model was determined as the best one to explain drying of apricots by comparing the coefficient of correlation determination (R2), mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) and root mean square error (RMSE) between the observed and expected moisture ratios.

Proses penjemuran gabah bertujuan untuk mengeringkan gabah di bawah sinar matahari secara langsung tanpa perantara (terbuka). Pengeringan dengan cara ini menjadi pilihan umumnya petani karena menguntungkan secara ekonomi malaupun memiliki kekurangan terkait dengan penyusutan karena kehilangan selama proses penjemuran. Pada cuaca terik, proses pengeringan padi sampai pada tingkat GKP diperlukan waktu 2 – 3 hari. Penelitian ini ditujukan untuk mengoptimasi proses penjemuran dengan mempertimbangkan faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi yaitu, media alas hamparan gabah (media jemur), tebal hamparan gabah dan frekuensi pembalikan. Penelitian dilakukan melalui sejumlah eksperimen dengan menggunakan desain eksperimen metode Taguchi L9 (33). Dari hasil perhitungan efek mean dan SNR diketahui bahwa frekuensi pembalikan menempati urutan ke-1, diikuti media jemur dan tebal gabah secara berturut-turut, pengaruhnya terhadap penyusutan kadar air, dan untuk mendapatkan proses penjemuran yang optimal, frekuensi pembalikan sebanyak 4 kali, kombinasi terpal talang dan terpal plastik sebagai media jemur, dan tebal gabah adalah 2 cm. Analisis varians mengungkapkan bahwa ke-3 faktor tidak siginifikan pengaruhnya terhadap penyusutan kadar air dengan kontribusi sebesar 77,17%.

This paper presents two mathematical models for drying mushrooms considering the shrinkage effect. Both the models consider the physical changes of mushrooms during drying using the diffusion equation. A convective term is presented in the first model while, in the second model, the effective diffusion co-efficient is employed. Although the diffusion co-efficient is mainly dependent on the water content of the mushrooms, both models are suitable for analyzing the drying process. Moreover, in this study it has been demonstrated that both models are equivalent.The Genetic Algorithmic process was used to estimate the parameter values in different conditions. The information regarding the moisture content and the thickness evaluation taken from the models shows the best fit with the experimental data. The mathematical models developed to simulate the drying curve of mushroom have been evaluated and compared.
