“…The year 2012 experienced more number of break spells with longer period than the active spells, and duration of active spells were also shorter. Hence, during this period, large variability in specific humidity at altitude levels above 2 km is observed, and no such consistent water vapor building up is taking place, which might be resulting in rainfall deficit year [ Simon and Joshi , ].…”

“…This height, where the humidity profile drops below 1/e, was found as mean value for the zenith MWR measurements 1 h around each of the selected scans. A similar scaling height was also found using satellite data (Simon and Joshi, 1994). For all scans, the mean value per scan is subtracted to investigate in number of cases during daytime is due to the formation of convective clouds, since overcast situations would influence the number of cases independent of the time of the day.…”

“…Detailed characterization of inter tropical convergence zone has been carried out using satellite data. The INSAT and NOAA data have brought out unique nature of monsoon onset with large-scale changes in wind and moisture profiles in lower troposphere prior to monsoon onset 14,15 . The critical role-played by sea surface temperature in Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean regions were clearly brought out by several studies.…”
