Determination of Minerals Content in Leaves of Moringa Oleifera by Neutron Activation Analysis

Abstract: DETERMINATION OF MINERALS CONTENT IN LEAVES OF MORINGA OLEIFERA BY NEUTRON ACTIVATION ANALYSIS. Moringa oleifera ( Mo) or kelor is a high-value plant, distributed in many tropical Ca, Mg, K, Zn, Fe dan Cl. Kandungan dalam daun kering meliputi: kalsium (3,45%), magnesium (0,66%), kalium (3,35%), klorida (0,25%), besi (147,20 mg/kg), natrium (152,52 mg/kg), seng (35,71 mg/kg), dan mangan (102,10 mg/kg). Daun kelor juga mengandung mineral lain seperti kromium (4,76 mg/kg), brom (4,82 mg/kg), cobalt (0,16 mg/kg… Show more

“…Asiedu‐Gyekye, Frimpong‐Manso, Awortwe, Antwi, and Nyarko () reported 35 elements (14 macroelements and 21 microelements) from leaf aqueous extract. The leaf powder have high contents (mg/100 g) of Ca (2787–3307), K (2672–4892), Mg (553–1566), Cl (188–332), Na (14.78–17.76), Fe (14.11–16.57), and other minerals (Mulyaningsih & Yusuf, ). MO leaves can provide 1,000 mg Ca and 4,000 mg by dry leaf powder, whereas 8 ounces of milk can give 300–400 mg only (Gopalakrishnan et al, ).…”

“…M. oleifera leaves powder dietary supplementation has been observed to protect humans against iron deficiency, scurvy diseases, malnutrition, diabetes, cancer, and oxidative stress. [15][16][17] Different parts of Moringa including root, bark, seed, flower, stem, leaves, and pods are used as a natural source to prevent fungal and bacterial infections, due to the presence of significant amount of anthocyanin, alkaloids, cardiac glycosides, carotenoids, anthrax, quinone, steroids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and terpenoids exhibits strong effect on killing of the pathogens. [18] Moringa leaves contain ascorbic acid, phenolics, and carotenoids, which make it as a natural antioxidant.…”

“…3) Sample Preparation for Neutron Activation Analysis (NAA): Ciliwung river waters sample Preparation for neutron activation analysis is 120 mL water sample is reduced by heating at a temperature of 50-60 0 C to a volume of 1 mL and is transferred into 500 µL LDPE vial (Low-density polyethylene) gradually and dried in a desiccator that equipped with a vacuum pump. Aquatic plant sample (Bacopa sp, Eichhornia diversifolia, Alternanthera reineckii, Ludwigia sp., and Murdannia sp) preparation based on [11] method. Irradiation and Counting each element of heavy metal based on Mulyaningsih [11], [2] method.…”
