Determination of metformin and triclosan in sewage sludge using Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS)

Abstract: Pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) are generally neither totally removed by sewage treatment nor completely destroyed in the environment. Metformin (MET) and triclosan (TRI) are two compounds in PPCPs that have the potential to be environmental pollutants. This research aimed to determine MET and TRI in sewage sludge using a liquid chromatograph-mass spectrometer (LCMS-8040) and a sewage sludge extraction method. The Milli-Q water and sewage sludge were also tested at three different MET and TR… Show more

“…Various analytical methodologies have been used to determine MET in various matrices. These include high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) [10], liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) [11][12][13], spectrophotometry [14,15], capillary electrophoresis (CE) [16], electrochemical sensing [17], fluorometry [18] and chemiluminescence analysis [19] among others. Among these techniques, chromatography-based methods are preferable because they enable selective separation and sensitive quantification of MET residues in various matrices.…”
