Determination of Isotianil in Brown Rice and Soil Using Supercritical Fluid Extraction and Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry

Abstract: Isotianil (3,4-dichloro-2'-cyano-1,2-thiazole-5-carboxanilide) is a new plant-activating pesticide. Usage of the pesticide was approved for rice fields in 2010 and its production increased 400 times (2 × 10(4) kg) in the next year. In this work, a method for determining isotianil in brown rice and rice field soil was investigated for the first time. Isotianil was extracted by supercritical fluid extraction and measured by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. Isotianil was successfully analyzed with good recov… Show more

“…Moreover, Isotianil does not show any direct antimicrobial activity against bacteria and fungi ( Ogava et al, 2011 ; Toquin et al, 2012 ). In 2010, it was registered under the name Stout ® in Japan and China, where it substantially increased rice production ( Ogava et al, 2011 ; Brozek et al, 2012 ; Yoshida et al, 2013 ). Its efficiency against rice blast seems unusually high, as lower dosages of Isotianil are needed than of any other existing plant defense activator, such as PBZ and TDL ( Ogava et al, 2011 ).…”

“…Although isotianil does not have any direct antimicrobial activity against bacteria and fungi, it can induce the defense response of various plants to pathogens. For example, isotianil treatment can induce the expression of some defenserelated genes, such as NPR1 and PR1 in the SA signaling pathway (Yoshida and Toda, 2013;Bektas and Eulgem, 2014). There is only one paten report on the application of isotianil in FWB before (Gilbert et al, 2019), and the specific mechanism of isotianil inducing plant resistance is also unclear yet.…”

“…tomato DC3000 (Pst DC3000) [17]. Isotianil (ISO) is able to induce resistance to rice blast at a low dose and shows good efficacy without direct antifungal activity [18]. Other reported plant elicitors include N-cyanomethyl-2chloroisonicotinamide (NCI), 3-chloro-1-methylpyrazole-5-carboxylic acid (CMPA), and so on [19][20][21].…”
