“…This method has been used as a reference for H determination in various materials, including geological samples with a large range of H 2 O concentrations from several wt% to hundreds of ppm in nominally anhydrous minerals (Raepsaet et al 2008;Aubaud et al 2009;Bureau et al 2009;Withers et al 2012). Analyses were conducted at the Nuclear Microprobe of CEA Saclay (Khodja et al 2001) were selected by mapping the major components using Particle Induced X-Ray emission (PIXE) and backscattered helium ions spectroscopy (Rutherford Backscattering, RBS).…”

“…A few sanidine crystals are noticeable in the vicinity of the capsule's walls, but these do not hinder the EXAFS analysis as the EXAFS spectra are representative of the sample in the center of the capsule. The water content of the samples was determined by Raman spectroscopy measurements (Losq et al, 2012) and by Elastic Recoil Detection Analysis (ERDA) (Bureau et al, 2009). Raman spectra were acquired at the IMPMC using the 1500 grooves/mm grating of the spectrometer and a 514 nm wavelength laser and are shown on Fig.…”

“…Indeed, when proton beam depth penetration in minerals can effectively reach up to 62 μm owing to the relatively low stopping power of protons, the gammaray emission from fluorine is induced only in the beginning of the path, as reaction cross-section falls close to zero for energies under 1.5 MeV as attested by a recent measurement reported in Jesus et al (2000). When ERDA is standard less (Raepsaet et al, 2008;Bureau et al, 2009;Withers et al, 2012), the quantification of fluorine requires the use of F-known content samples having a bulk composition similar to the samples (i.e. silicates).…”
