Determination of groove location of two-lobe hydrodynamic bearings for optimum performance using genetic algorithm

Abstract: A steady-state performance analysis of two-lobe oil journal bearing has been carried out in this paper. A computer program has been prepared to calculate the steady-state hydrodynamic characteristics. To study the steady-state characteristics of two-lobe bearing, the nondimensional Reynolds’ equation is solved to obtain nondimensional values of load-carrying capacity, flow rate, attitude angle, and friction variable. Parameters of the design are studied for different groove configurations and an optimized groo… Show more

“…Optimum oil groove location of two-lobe bearings affects the performance of bearings. 18 Kumar and Kakoty 19 evaluated the performance of three-lobe pressure dam bearings using finite difference method. They suggested that by incorporating dam and relief track, stability and threshold speed increases.…”

“…They suggested that by incorporating dam and relief track, stability and threshold speed increases. Results of researchers 1519 indicated an enhancement in the performance of pressure dam bearings by incorporating dam in the upper lobe and relief track in the lower lobe of a non-circular hydrodynamic journal bearing, while operating with Newtonian lubrication.…”
