A dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction method based on the solidification of floating organic droplets was developed as a simple and sensitive method for the simultaneous determination of the concentrations of multiple fungicides (triazolone, chlorothalonil, cyprodinil, and trifloxystrobin) in water by high-performance liquid chromatography with variable-wavelength detection. After an approach varying one factor at a time was used, an orthogonal array design [L25 (5(5))] was employed to optimize the method and to determine the interactions between the parameters. The significance of the effects of the different factors was determined using analysis of variance. The results indicated that the extraction solvent volume significantly affects the efficiency of the extraction. Under optimal conditions, the relative standard deviation (n = 5) varied from 2.3 to 5.5% at 0.1 μg/mL for each analyte. Low limits of detection were obtained and ranged from 0.02 to 0.2 ng/mL. In addition, the proposed method was applied to the analysis of fungicides in real water samples. The results show that the dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction based on the solidification of floating organic droplets is a potential method for detecting fungicides in environmental water samples, with recoveries of the target analytes ranging from 70.1 to 102.5%.

A novel and sensitive method was developed for the determination of tebuconazole enantioselectively using reversed-phase LC-MS/MS. The separation and determination were performed using on an amylose-based chiral stationary phase, a Lux 3u Amylose-2 column (150 mm×2.0 mm), under isocratic conditions at 0.3 mL/min flow rate. A series of chiral stationary phases were investigated and the effect of mobile phase composition on the enantioseparation was discussed. Parameters including the matrix effect, linearity, precision, accuracy and stability were evaluated. Under optimal conditions, the overall mean recoveries for two enantiomers from the soil, tomato, cucumber, pear and apple samples were 79.3-101.1% with 2.8-11.5% intra-day relative standard deviations (RSDs) and 4.1-8.6% inter-day RSDs at 5, 25 and 50 μg/kg levels; the mean enantiomer recoveries from the water samples were 89.6-101.9% with 3.3-10.2% intra-day RSDs and 5.1-7.7% inter-day RSDs at 0.25, 0.5 and 2.5 μg/kg levels. The limits of detection (LODs) for all enantiomers in tomato, cucumber, pear, apple, soil and water were less than 0.6 μg/kg, whereas the limit of quantification (LOQ) did not exceed 2.0 μg/kg. The results indicate that this proposed method is convenient and reliable for the enantioselective determination of tebuconazole enantiomers in foods and environment samples.

The determination of pesticides in food products is an essential issue to guarantee food safety and minimise health risks of consumers. A protocol based on membrane-assisted solvent extraction and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS) that allows the determination of 18 pesticides in red wine at minimum labour effort for sample preparation was developed and validated. Ten millilitres of wine were extracted using 100 μL of toluene filled in a non-porous polyethylene membrane bag which is immersed in the wine sample. After 150 min extraction under stirring, an aliquot of the extraction solution is analysed using HPLC-MS/MS. The limits of quantification ranged from 3 ng/L for Pirimicarb to 1.33 μg/L for Imidacloprid. Quantification by matrix-matched calibration provided relative standard deviations ≤16 % for most of the target pesticides. The linearity of calibration was given over three to four orders of magnitude, which enables the reliable measurement of a broad range of pesticide concentrations, and for each target pesticide, the sensitivity of the protocol meets the maximum residue levels set by legislations at least for wine grapes. Good agreement of results was found when the new method was compared with a standard liquid-liquid extraction protocol. In five wine samples analysed, Carbendazim and Metalaxyl were determined at micrograms per litre concentrations, even in some of the organic wines. Tebuconazol and Cyprodinitril were determined at lower abundance and concentration, followed by Spiroxamin and Diuron.
