Determination of fluvalinate metabolite residues in cottonseed, apples, tomatoes, and soil

Abstract: Fluvalinate is the active ingredient in Mavrik and Spur insecticides used to control insects on numerous field crops. Radiolabel experiments have shown that the residue of concern in most crops is the parent molecule. However, an analytical method was needed to determine the major hydrolytic metabolites of fluvalinate, 3-phenoxybenzoic acid (PBA) and 2-[2-chloro-4-(trifluoromethyl)anilino]-3-methylbutanoic acid (CAA), in selected crops. The method entails standard extraction and partition steps, basic hydrolys… Show more

“…This conclusion was also supported by the observation of the rapid reduction of tau‐fluvalinate in methanolic solutions of Mavrik. It should be noticed that tau‐fluvalinate is hydrolyzed rapidly in slight alkaline conditions or during extraction with methanol 21. In contrast, the Committee for Veterinary Products reported less than 1.5% reduction of tau‐fluvalinate in honey after 4–6 months incubation at room temperature 8.…”

“…Analyses of infusion from the tea leaves and tea leaves after steeping were also conducted. PBA has been determined by Fitch et al (1988) using GCZMS(SIM) after methylation and by Mortimer (1990) using ECD-GC after esterification with hexafluoroisopropyl alcohol. In the present study, the method of Mortimer was used because of its convenience and high sensitivity.…”

“…Other compounds of commercial interest for whose synthesis damino acids are used are sweeteners (being alitame the most representative [117 -120]), fluvalinate (a pyrethroid pesticide [115]), tadalafil and analogs (cialis as the most widely known, used in treatment of erectile dysfunction [121] [122]), or the analog dipeptides thymodepressin and SCV-07 [123] [124]. Whereas thymodepressin (g-dGlu-d-Trp) has applications in psoriasis treatment, SCV-07 (g-d-Glu-l-Trp) is a potent immunomodulator with antimicrobial activity, which enhances the immune system and has also been used in the treatment of chronic hepatitis C.…”
