Determination of Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals in Water and Wastewater Samples by Liquid Chromatography-Negative Ion Electrospray Ionization-Tandem Mass Spectrometry

Abstract: A liquid chromatography-negative ion electrospray ionization-tandem mass spectrometry method was developed for the simultaneous analysis of bisphenol A, 4-octylphenol, 4-nonylphenol, diethylstilbestrol, 17β-estradiol, estriol, estrone, 17α-ethinylestradiol, prednisone, and prednisolone. This method used solid-phase extraction with an elution solvent of acetonitrile to improve the stability of the analytes. To maintain the stability of analytes analyses were completed within five days. The recoveries ranged fro… Show more

“…After that, the solutions were filtered through a nylon syringe filter (0.45 µm). The samples volume of 20 L was injected into LC-MS/MS (LCMS-8060, Shimadzu, Japan) [25]. The limit of detection (LOD) for E1 was 0.94 ± 0.05 ng L -1 and the limit of quantitation (LOQ) was 3.13 ± 0.17 ng L -1 .…”

“…In the past few decades, thousands of endocrine-disrupting compounds (EDCs) entered into the water cycle through different ways [1][2][3][4]. According to EPA, endocrinedisrupting chemicals (EDCs), which can be both natural and synthetic substances in our environment, are typically pharmaceutical and personal care products (PPCPs) and foods that interfere with hormone biosynthesis and metabolism resulting in a deviation from normal homeostatic control or reproduction [5].…”
