Determination of copper in sugarcane spirit by flame atomic absorption spectrometry using a ternary solvent mixture (water-ethanol-acetone)

Abstract: ABSTRACT:The present work describes the use of a homogeneous ternary mixture of the solvents water, ethanol, and acetone to improve the determination of copper in sugarcane spirit by flame atomic absorption spectrometry. The solvent ratio used (on a volume basis) was 5.0:5.0:15.0 (water:ethanol:acetone). The analytical curve for copper was linear up to a concentration of 6.00 mg L -1 of copper, and could be described by the equation: ΔAbs = 0.1778C Cu + 0.0048 (r 2 = 0.9999), and limits of detection and quanti… Show more

“…Gibbs–Rozemboon ternary diagram for biodiesel‐propan‐1‐ol‐water (KCl 0.1 mol L −1 ) solvent system was constructed (by the phase titration technique) aiming at setting composition ranges for complete miscibility , . Pairs of miscible solvents were titrated with a third solvent at room temperature to the point of opalescence, characterized by the appearance of an emulsion in the titrated medium .…”

“…This raises the need for devising and implementing increasingly rigorous, technologically advanced vinification processes aimed at obtaining standardized wine products with proven quality in terms of physicochemical and sensorial properties. In this context, the monitoring and control of the beverage through physical-chemical analysis is found to be of paramount importance (Souza et al 2016a;Souza et al 2017Souza et al , 2019.…”

“…The quantification of metallic specie is important for product quality control, observing the inorganic composition assurance and the presence of toxic elements to humans [5]. These determinations are routinely performed by flame atomic absorption spectrometry (F AAS), [6][7][8][9], inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) [10], electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry ET AAS [2,4,11,12,13] and UV-Vis spectrophotometry [14,15]. However, the energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (EDXRF) has not been explored for determination of inorganic species in sugar cane spirit.…”
