Determination of Construction Temperatures of Crumb Rubber Modified Bitumen Mixture Based on CRMB Mastic

Abstract: Crumb rubber modified bitumen (CRMB) has been widely used in pavement construction and provides an effective way to recycle waste tires and helps alleviate the “black pollution” problem. There are no current specifications regarding the appropriate mixing and compaction temperatures of the CRMB mixture. There is a direct relationship between the mixing and the compaction temperatures of the CRMB mixture and the viscosity of the CRMB mastic. In this study, we first prepared CRMB using crumb rubber powder and pe… Show more

“…CR tends to provide asphalt mixtures with similar benefits as SBS and SBR polymers, but at higher doses and with the advantage that it has a positive impact on the environment as described above but is sensitive to decomposition and the absorption of oxygen [ 11 , 13 ]. As is well known, the addition of CR in asphalt binders implies an increase in the viscosity of the asphalt binders, which translates into higher production temperatures, generating a negative impact on the environment [ 9 , 14 , 15 ].…”

“…Like plastic products, waste tires are difficult to degrade and do not disappear naturally after being buried underground for decades, causing a phenomenon known as "black pollution". Therefore, the effective recovery and reuse of waste rubber to reduce environmental pollution can make important contributions to the construction of an eco-friendly society [1]. EPUC (EPUC) is a composite material mixed with one component or two component Polyurethane as the binder, cement sand as the filler aggregate and mixed with a certain proportion of rubber particles.…”

“…However, it was demonstrated in a study circa 2019 that the viscosity of the CR-modified asphalt, including the mixing temperature and compaction temperature, is based on the viscosity of the CR-modified from the viscosity-temperature curves. Based on the Chinese standard JTG E20-2011, it is recommended that the viscosity range of the CR-modified asphalt in the mixing and compaction process should be 2.7 ± 0.2 Pa.s and 3.9 ± 0.3 Pa.s, respectively [99].…”
