Determination of Binary Diffusion Coefficients of Anisole, 2,4-Dimethylphenol, and Nitrobenzene in Supercritical Carbon Dioxide

Abstract: Binary diffusion coefficients of anisole, 2,4-dimethylphenol, and nitrobenzene in supercritical carbon dioxide have been determined at 313, 323, and 333 K and at pressures between 15.0 and 35.0 MPa. Measurements have been obtained using the Taylor−Aris dispersion technique. The data have been correlated with temperature, pressure, density, and viscosity, and some general trends have been established. The applicability of several correlations to the experimental data was examined, and some correlations have sho… Show more

“…When the reaction takes place in a gas-solid system at higher pressures, the reactivity of the reacting species does not change so much when varying CO 2 pressure, but NB is dissolved and diluted in the gas phase. The diffusion coefficient of NB also decreases with the density of CO 2 [55]. These effects cause the decrease in the rate of NB hydrogenation with further pressurization with CO 2 .…”

“…Measurements were carried out with a commercial Hewlett‐Packard G1205A supercritical fluid chromatograph (HP SFC), the same as that used by us in previous studies 13, 14. It consists of three parts as can be seen in Figure 1: the pump module, the oven module, and the multiple‐wavelength UV detector (MWD), as well as an HP Vectra PC and an HP printer.…”
