Determination of Anaerobic Threshold by a new approach through the incremental exercise using proportion in HR and Ve changes in rowers

Abstract: Background and Study Aim. The aim of this research is to create a non-invasive and easy to apply in practice approach to determine the anaerobic threshold based only on measurement of the pulmonary ventilation and the hearth rate. It uses proportions, with which these variables were changed during a maximal incremental test. Material and Methods. Twenty athletes from the national rowing team of Bulgaria with average age of 17.5 years were tested. Participants performed a one-time graded incremental exerc… Show more

“…Recently, the X-method (Stefanov, 2021) for the determination of AnT was published, which is non-invasive, accurate and relatively easy to apply in rowers, compared to other reference methods (Stefanov, 2022).…”

“…Hypothesis: After proving in a previous study [22] that there is a 95% of agreement between HR at AnT determined by the X-method, the modified D max method and at fixed blood lactate concentration of 4 mmol/L, we assumed that a similar agreement there should be between X-method and VT2 determined by RCP.…”

“…The determination of AnT by a method recently described by us [22] was compared with the AnT determined by two reference methods using blood lactate concentration. The method uses the intersection between difference (Diff) between the percentages of the %HR versus HR peak and the %Ve versus Ve peak on the one hand and the %Ve on the other to determine AnT.…”

“…Therefore, when VO 2max is evaluated through an IT on the rowing machine, along with obtaining the VTs, their mechanical equivalences are also observed ( Cerezuela-Espejo et al, 2018 ; Huerta Ojeda et al, 2022a ). In this sense, there have been several attempts to validate non-invasive and practical methods to help determine VTs ( Cabo, Martinez-Camblor & del Valle, 2011 ; Stefanov & Neykov, 2021 ). This background shows the importance of establishing different training zones based on ventilatory parameters ( López Chicharro, Vicente Campos & Cancino López, 2013 ).…”
