Determination of air gap permeances of hybrid stepping motors for calculation of motor behaviour

Abstract: Prediction of hybrid stepping motor performance is made possible using an analytical model based on the motor's equivalent magnetic circuit. The motor's static torque behaviour can be determined by drawing the energy balance of the magnetic circuit. Circuit elements consist of magnetomotive forces induced by the permanent magnet and the stator's windings as well as permeances for iron parts and air gap. These permeances have to be identified with great care in order to calculate the motor correctly. The magnet… Show more

“…Figure 18 shows the comparison of flux density in the stator pole and stator yoke region by using the analytical method and FEA. Λ t0 and Λ t1 in Equation (11) can be accurately determined as Λ t0 = 8.1 × 10 −6 (Wb/A) and Λ t1 = 2.4 × 10 −6 (Wb/A) by 2-D FEA [18,25], and F δ = gB pm0 /µ 0 = 280 A. It can be seen that the analytical method can well predict the flux variation in the stator pole and yoke region, although some errors occur mainly due to the saturation effect.…”

“…The Taguchi algorithm was proposed by Gen’chi Taguchi in the 1950s. Through local optimization, the Taguchi algorithm can establish the lowest FE model using the smallest number of tests, and use discrete data to find the best combination, which greatly reduces the time cost [ 9 , 10 , 11 , 12 ].…”

“…Although high accuracy can be achieved through the FEM, the fact that each calculation is of much timeconsuming, especially when 3-D FEM analysis has to be adopted make the method not feasible in the design stage [2] . On the contrary, the analytical-numerical method combined the other two methods in such way that the air gap region and the other regions of the stepping motor are solved by FEM and analytical approach respectively, with the corresponding advantages of time saving and high accuracy [3], [4] .…”
