Determination of aflatoxin M1 and B1 in milk and jujube by miniaturized solid‐phase extraction coupled with ultra high performance liquid chromatography and quadrupole time‐of‐flight tandem mass spectrometry

Abstract: A miniaturized solid-phase method was proposed for the extraction of aflatoxin M1 and B1 from milk and jujube samples. Target analytes were identified by ultra high performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole time-of-flight tandem mass spectrometry in positive mode. The main factors that affected the extraction ability and sensitivity of the analytical method were evaluated in detail. In the optimal conditions, 30 mg of silica particles functionalized with octadecyltrimethoxysilane and methanol w… Show more

“…LC‐MS/MS has been reported and considered as the universal approach for mycotoxin screening due to their high selectivity for analyzing several analyte in one run [17–22]. Recently, a few multi‐mycotoxin analysis methods have been described in varied food commodities, however the validated methods for baby food analysis are rare as high sensitivity is required to satisfy the strict regulation in such types of matrices [7,23].…”

“…Mycotoxins and their derivatives have been primarily analyzed using LC coupled with various detectors such as diode array detectors [12–15], fluorescence detectors [14, 16], or MS [17–23]. Because of its good anti‐interference ability and high sensitivity, LC–MS/MS has been frequently applied to the detection of mycotoxins in dairy products.…”

“…Aflatoxins (AFs) are derived by Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus parasiticus and listed as Group I carcinogens by the World Health Organization in 1993 [4–6]. In aflatoxins, the most ubiquitous and toxic is aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) [7,8]. Human exposure to AFB1 occurs by the intake of contamination of grains and feedstuffs (cereal, meat, milk, etc.)…”
