RESUMO -Neste trabalho, foi avaliado o potencial do resíduo de coco como fonte de biomassa para produção de biocombustíveis por pirólise considerando suas propriedades físico-químicas e a cinética de degradação térmica. Foram realizadas análises termogravimétricas com temperaturas de 300 a 900K e taxas de aquecimento entre 5 e 30 K/min, em condições inertes. Os parâmetros cinéticos do processo de decomposição foram estimados por métodos isoconversionais e pelo modelo de reações paralelas independentes (RPI). Os valores médios de energia de ativação (Ea) calculados estão entre 133,3 e 146,3 kJ mol -1 . INTRODUÇÃOSão produzidos anualmente 62 Mt de coco (Cocos nucifera L.), sendo o Brasil o quarto maior produtor (Siengchum et al., 2013). As aplicações para essa matéria-prima são diversas, incluindo indústrias alimentícias e de cosméticos, agricultura e artesanato. No entanto, grande parte torna-se resíduo. As cascas do coco correspondem a 70% do lixo produzido no litoral brasileiro devido à venda da água de coco. Já as indústrias rejeitam 80-85% do peso de fruto. Portanto, a destinação adequada deste resíduo constitui um problema ambiental devido ao tempo necessário para sua degradação e também ao favorecimento do desenvolvimento do mosquito Aedes aegypti (Corradini et al., 2009).A pirólise é uma alternativa interessante para agregar valor a estes resíduos através da produção de gases, líquidos e sólidos combustíveis. As características físicas e químicas da biomassa afetam a qualidade e o rendimento dos produtos pirolíticos. Além disso, conhecer os parâmetros cinéticos da sua degradação térmica é essencial a fim de se obter melhores resultados. Diante deste contexto, o objetivo deste trabalho foi estudar a decomposição térmica do resíduo de coco empregando modelos cinéticos como o isoconversionais e o Modelo de Reações Paralelas Independentes (RPI) a fim de avaliar o uso deste material como fonte de biomassa para a produção de bio-óleo por pirólise.

Waste to Carbon: Estimating the Energy Demand for Production of Carbonized Refuse-Derived Fuel

We have been advancing the concept of carbonized refuse-derived fuel (CRDF) by refuse-derived fuel (RDF) torrefaction as improved recycling to synergistically address the world’s energy demand. The RDF is a combustible fraction of municipal solid waste (MSW). Many municipalities recover RDF for co-firing with conventional fuels. Torrefaction can further enhance fuel properties and valorize RDF. Energy demand for torrefaction is one of the key unknowns needed for scaling up CRDF production. To address this need, a pioneering model for optimizing site-specific energy demand for torrefaction of mixed RDF materials was developed. First, thermogravimetric and differential scanning calorimetry analyses were used to establish thermal properties for eight common RDF materials. Then, the model using the %RDF mix, empirical thermal properties, and torrefaction temperature was developed. The model results for individual RDF components fitted well (R2 ≥ 0.98) with experimental torrefaction data. Finally, the model was used to find an optimized RDF site-specific mixture with the lowest energy demand. The developed model could be a basis for estimating a net energy potential from the torrefaction of mixed RDF. Improved models could be useful to make plant-specific decisions to optimize RDF production based on the energy demand that depends on highly variable types of MSW and RDF streams.

A novel two‐step method is proposed to conduct the pseudo‐component model for cattle manure pyrolysis process. The weight coefficient of pseudo‐components firstly are identified accurately by Gaussian multipeak fitting method based on the DTG data of cattle manure, and then the kinetic parameters for each pseudo‐component including reaction order, activation energies (Ei) and pre‐exponential factor (Ai), are obtained by the reaction‐order mechanism function and Coats‐Redfern method. The results showed that the decomposition process of cattle manure should be characterized by five pseudo‐components (extractives, hemicellulose, cellulose, lignin, and volatilizable carbonaceous materials). The corresponding reaction orders were 1.6, 1.8, 1.9, 1.3, and 1.8, respectively. The Ei were ranged from 42.54 to 527.02 kJ mol−1 for five pseudo‐components. The pseudo‐component model coupled with multipeak Gaussian fitting could describe the kinetic process of cattle manure decomposition very well, and provide useful data for the design of a thermal decomposition processing system and the kinetic analysis of pyrolysis process of other solid wastes. © 2017 American Institute of Chemical Engineers Environ Prog, 37: 1618–1625, 2018
