This study investigates factors influencing the poultry production of poultry farmers in the Sindupalchowk district by examining the potential disparities in performance among socioeconomic factors, farm inputs, and market access and technology adaptation that navigate poultry production. This study focused on the poultry farmers located in the Sindupalchowk district of Nepal gathering data from 156 poultry farmers located in the study area. This study augmented the simple regression model and estimates the factors affecting poultry production using an explanatory research technique. The empirical results established a significantly positive relation between farm area, feed used, and energy use, distribution channel with poultry production. The finding gives relevance to the concentration factors that affect poultry production among farmers in the Sindupalchowk district. The study identified major problems such as the high price of feed, the outbreak of diseases, lack of steady supply of electricity, lack of veterinary care and service facilities, inadequate availability of chickens, and lack of credit which should be mitigated early as possible with an interest to accelerate commercial poultry production in Sindupalchowk district.

Economics of Early-Season Cauliflower Production and Marketing in Dhading District of Nepal

The study was conducted during September-November 2020 to assess the economics of early-season cauliflower production and marketing in Dhading district of Nepal. Dhading district was purposely selected as it is one of the pocket area for cauliflower production. The study collected primary information from 60 farmers and 15 traders by using a semi-structured pre-tested questionnaire. The simple descriptive and statistical tools such as Cobb-Douglas production function and benefit-cost ratio were used to analyze the result. The total cost of production of early-season cauliflower was NRs 13588.81 per ropani while the average yield was 727.94 kg per ropani. Further, the gross margin, and net profit per ropani were calculated NRs 25194.54, and NRs 22855.51 respectively. Likewise, the benefit-cost ratio was estimated to be 2.60 that revealed the early season cauliflower production is highly attractive and profitable. The Cobb-Douglas production function showed that cost on manure had a significant contribution in total gross return. The return to scale value was computed to be 0.59 indicating decreasing return to scale in early-season cauliflower. The major marketing channel was found to be Producer-Collector-Wholesaler-Retailer-Consumer with highest price spread of NRs 35/kg. Major problem in the production and marketing of cauliflower was diseases and pests and inappropriate marketing channels. Therefore the finding suggests, productivity and profitability can be maximized if the existing problems of diseases and pests, and quality of seeds are solved and appropriate marketing prices and channel are ensured.

Despite possessing considerable prospective for wheat cultivation, productivity in Kanchanpur remains lower compared to that of neighbouring districts like Kailali, Banke, Kapilbastu, and Rupendehi which share similar meteorological conditions. The primary objective of this study is to investigate the influential variables affecting wheat production and to determine the associated challenges inherent in wheat cultivation within the area of the Kanchanpur district. Given the substantial prospects for wheat farming in this geographic region, the Kanchanpur district was purposively selected, and research was conducted during March and April of 2022. Through a simple random sampling technique, one hundred households of wheat farmers were systematically chosen. Primary data were collected through the utilization of pre-tested semi-structured questionnaires administered via face-to-face interviews, while secondary data were sourced from pertinent journals. The factors influencing wheat production were determined through the application of a multiple regression model. The findings of this research underscore that variables such as the quantity of applied NPK (Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium), the educational level of the household head, the extent of wheat-cultivated land with irrigation facilities, and the farmers’ years of experience in the field exerted a significant positive influence on wheat production in the study area. To identify the major constraints in wheat production, an indexing method was applied. The research identifies the unavailability of chemical fertilizer during critical growth periods, challenges arising from damage caused by wild animals and stray cattle, the lack of access to improved seeds and irrigation, susceptibility to diseases and pests, and inadequate market access as a major constraint affecting wheat production in the research area.
