Determinants of Proactive Low-Carbon Consumption Behaviors: Insights from Urban Residents in Eastern China

Abstract: Proactive low-carbon consumption behaviors (PLCBs) are crucial to achieving carbon neutrality and identifying motivations for PLCBs is indispensable to changing individual consumption patterns. This study establishes a model by incorporating individual–group-level factors with psychological empowerment perception. “…The results showed that mandatory environmental regulations had a certain impact on energy conservation and emission reduction [ 36 ]. Xiu Cheng’s analysis found that the use of voluntary environmental regulation to cultivate citizens’ awareness of environmental protection was more helpful in allowing citizens to generate positive low-carbon consumption behaviors [ 37 ]. The existing research mainly focuses on the implementation effects of different types of environmental regulations on carbon emission efficiency, and it has been found that the implementation effects vary significantly [ 35 ], but few studies have explored the comprehensive effects of different configurations of environmental regulation tools on carbon emission efficiency.…”

“…Several climate mitigation strategies have been utilised, such as green technologies and renewable energies (Susskind, Chun et al, 2020; United-Nations-Environment-Programme, 2020), besides practising a low-carbon lifestyle (Eker, Garcia et al, 2021). Practising low-carbon consumption drives sustainability (Cheng, Yang et al, 2022). Three pillars of sustainability usually focused on in the @ Liscensee SPSD Press literature are economic, environmental, and social.…”
