Objective: to assess Chinese children’s guardians’ intentions and attitudes toward accepting a pertussis cocooning vaccination and its determinants. Methods: a self-administered questionnaire was designed based on a theoretical framework that originated mainly from the reasoned action approach. Associations between questionnaire variables and outcomes were assessed using univariate and multivariate analyses with odds ratios (OR), regression coefficients (β), and their 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Results: among 762 eligible participants, most (80.71%) reported a positive intention to accept a pertussis cocooning vaccination. The guardians’ positive intention was related to the children’s pertussis vaccination experience (OR = 2.483, 95% CI: 1.340–4.600). Guardians who had a positive attitude towards pertussis vaccination (OR = 1.554, 95% CI: 1.053–2.296), higher subjective norms (OR = 1.960, 95% CI: 1.371–2.802) and better perceived behavioral control (OR = 7.482, 95% CI: 4.829–11.591) stated a higher intention to receive a pertussis cocooning vaccination. The mean attitude score was 3.88 ± 0.863. Greater risk perception about pertussis (β = 0.390, 95% CI: 0.298–0.483), stronger obligation from moral norms (β = 0.355, 95% CI: 0.279–0.430), and good knowledge (β = 0.108, 95% CI: 0.070–0.146) were significantly related to positive attitude toward pertussis cocooning vaccination among guardians. Conclusions: Chinese children’s guardians held positive intentions and attitudes toward accepting a pertussis cocooning vaccination. The current findings described the determinants of such intention and attitude and provided knowledge based on improving guardians’ intentions for policymakers if cocooning vaccinations or related immunization strategies are implemented in China in the future.

Factors Influencing Childhood Influenza Vaccination: A Systematic Review

Childhood influenza vaccination coverage remains low in lower/middle-income countries. This systematic review aims to identify influencing factors around childhood influenza vaccination. A systematic literature review was conducted and included empirical studies with original data that investigated factors influencing childhood influenza vaccination. We searched MEDLINE, Web of Science, EMBASE, CINAHL Plus, Global Health, PsycINFO, and two Chinese databases, China Knowledge Resource Integrated Database and Chongqing VIP, using a combination of the key terms ‘childhood’, ‘influenza’, ‘vaccination’, and related syntax for all peer-reviewed publications published before December 2019. Thirty studies were included in the analysis. Childhood influenza vaccination was positively associated with caregivers’ knowledge of influenza vaccine, positive vaccine attitudes, self-efficacy, perceived susceptibility and severity of influenza, believing in the efficacy of influenza vaccine, the worry of getting sick, healthcare workers’ recommendations, and previous influenza vaccination experiences. Barriers included the fear of safety and side effects of the vaccine, as well as poor access to vaccination service. To improve childhood influenza vaccine uptake, health education is necessary to address caregivers’ lack of confidence on vaccine safety. Future studies are needed to investigate influencing factors around healthcare workers’ vaccination recommendation behaviors and the impact of contextual factors on public vaccination behaviors.

To examine the therapeutic efficacy of Lianhua Qingwen granule combined with peramivir sodium chloride injection in treating influenza and level changes of serum inflammatory factors. The clinical data of 100 influenza sufferers enrolled in our infirmary from January 2018 to January 2020 retrospectively analyzed and they were randomized in the contrast group (n=50) and the experience group (n=50). The former was provided with peramivir sodium chloride injection, while the latter was medicated with Lianhua Qingwen granule after peramivir sodium chloride injection. The clinical efficacy, serum inflammatory factor, C-reactive protein, interleukin-6 level and procalcitonin level of both groups of sufferers were compared. The overall response rate of the injected group was 80 %, lower compared with 96 % of the injected and medicated group (p<0.05). The antipyretic time and sore throat disappearance time, cough disappearance time and general ache disappearance duration in the medicated group were remarkably shorter than those without Lianhua Qingwen powder (p<0.05). The differences in interleukin-6, C-reactive protein and procalcitonin levels before treatment between both groups were not statistically remarkable (p>0.05) and the levels of interleukin-6, C-reactive protein and procalcitonin of both groups of sufferers decreased after treatment. The levels of interleukin-6, C-reactive protein and procalcitonin of patients got injection and took medicine were remarkably lower than those who had no granule (p<0.05). Lianhua Qingwen granule combined with peramivir sodium chloride injection shows a remarkable potency in the treatment of influenza. It can shorten the treatment time and reduce the level of serum inflammatory factors. It is worthy of clinical promotion and application.
