Determinants of mortality after hypothermic circulatory arrest in a chronic porcine model

Abstract: Parameters of oxyhemodynamics should be monitored especially from the induction of anesthesia to the end of cooling before a 75-min period of HCA. The use of medetomidine and/or 35% of oxygen at induction of anesthesia should be avoided in favor of ketamine plus 100% of oxygen.

“…It is detected that bleeding increases within the ones who had partial cardiopulmonary bypass [6]. In the critical patients, if cardiac functions and the oxygen amount reaching the heart can be provided within the optimal conditions during and after the operation, mortality and morbidity decrease noticeably [7,8]. In our case, the patient has requiring coronary bypass surgery.…”

“…Apart from the results of each single study performed, it was our interest to evaluate thoroughly our experience in order to better understand the pathogenesis of brain ischemic injury and to identify the determinants of outcome after experimental HCA, thus, the targets for potential effective treatments (2,3).…”
