Background: Long-acting and permanent contraceptive methods (LAPMs) are the most effective approaches to reduce fertility. The study of factors associated with the use of LAPMs is one of the key steps in finding the population involved in reduced fertility. Objectives: The aim of this study was to assess factors affecting the use of LAPMs among married women of reproductive age in Torbat Heydariyeh city, East of Iran. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 304 married women aged 15 -49 years in Torbat Heydarieh in 2016. Data were collected using demographic and fertility questionnaires. The data were analyzed using SPSS 13 by descriptive statistics and multivariate regression analysis. Results: The current overall prevalence of using LAPMs was 21.4%. The multivariate analysis showed that utilization of LAMPs was less frequent among the participants with diploma (AOR = 0.357, 95% CI = 0.156 -0.817) and academic education (AOR = 0.418, 95% CI = 0.174 -1.003) compared to women who had primary and secondary education. However, the utilization of LAPMs was more frequent in those with high income level (AOR = 8.364, 95% CI = 3.994-17.511) and those with higher number of living children (AOR = 2.247, 95% CI = 1.585-3.187). Conclusions:The persistent use of LAPMs is largely determined by education and income level and the number of surviving children. Reproductive health programmers can consider this group of women for interventions aiming at improving the fertility rate.

Background: Indonesia ranks 5 in the world by the number of population. It has Total Fertility Rate of 2.6, which is higher than average rate in South East Asia. In order to control population growth the Indonesian Government has attempted to increase the utilization of the long-term contraceptive method. This study aimed to determine determinants of long-term contraceptive method use in Madiun, East Java with the application of social cognitive theory. Subjects and Method:This was an analytic observational study with case control design. Study subjects consisted of 50 women of reproductive age who had used long term contraceptive method and 100 similar women who had not. The dependent variable was use of long-term contraceptive method. The independent variables were education level, knowledge, attitude, culture, information access, and decision maker. The data were collected using a set of questionnaire and analyzed by path analysis in STATA. Results: Use of long-term contraceptive method were positively affected by high education level (b= 1.31; 95% CI= 0.13 to 2.50; p=0.029), positive attitude (b= 2.45; 95% CI= 1.47 to 3.43); p<0.001), and joint decision making (b= 2.02; 95% CI= 0.91 to 3.13; p<0.001). Joint decision making was affected by positive attitude (b= 1.27; 95% CI= 0.58 to 1.96; p<0.001). Positive attitude was affected by good knowledge (b=0.75; 95% CI= 0.09 to 1.49; p=0.047) and positive culture (b= 1.44; 95% CI= 0.70 to 2.17; p<0.001). Good knowledge was affected by good information access (b= 0.96; 95% CI= 0.20 to 1.63; p= 0.005). Conclusion: Use of long-term contraceptive method is positively affected by high education level, positive attitude, and decision making.

Background: In low and middle-income countries, 95% of postpartum women want to avoid a pregnancy for 2 years, but 70% are not using contraception. Delay in use of contraception by couples during postpartum period can result in many unwanted pregnancies. Long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) is ideal for postpartum women. Therefore this study aimed at assessing the prevalence and factors associated with LARC use among postpartum women. Methods: Facility based cross sectional study was conducted from July 23-Aug 25, 2018. Systematic random sampling technique was employed to recruit a total of 381 women in extended postpartum period visiting Child Immunization service in hosanna health institutions. Pretested structured questionnaire was used for data collection. Data was analyzed by SPSS version 20. Binary and multivariate logistic regression analysis was done. The presence and strength of association was determined using AOR with its 95% CI. Variables with P value less than 0.05 were considered as statistical significant. Results: The prevalence of LARC use was 36.5% (95%CI (33.05-39.95)). The main reason for not using LARC was fear of side effect and false information. Previous use of LARC (AOR=3.3, 95%CI (1.7-6.5)) and have ever discussed with health providers on LARC (AOR=2.5, 95%CI (1.1-5.74)) were found to be significantly associated with LARC use. Conclusions: The utilization of LARC among postpartum women was found to be higher than other studies in Ethiopia. Increase women’s access to realistic information on LARC, mainly on IUCD need to be emphasized to enhance its uptake.
