“…In patients with NAFLD progression, excessive free fatty acid accumulation within hepatocytes leads to mitochondrial and peroxisomal dysfunction, leading to enhanced oxidative stress, production of toxic lipid metabolites, and ongoing hepatocyte injury through activation of nuclear factor kappa B and proinflammatory cytokines .
