Determinants of agricultural emissions: panel data evidence from a global sample

Abstract: Using the panel data of 89 economies from 1995–2012, this study examines the major drivers of agricultural emissions while considering affluence, energy intensity, agriculture value added and economic integration. We find long-run cointegration among the variables. Furthermore, our empirical results based on a dynamic fixed effects autoregressive distributed lag model show that the increases in income and economic integration – proxied by trade and foreign direct investment (FDI) – are the major contributors t… Show more

“…The resource endowment, infrastructure, industry scale, socioeconomic development level, and ecological functions vary across different regions in China. When formulating emission reduction plans, it is essential to propose suitable solutions for different regions and agricultural sectors based on their specific circumstances (Nguyen et al, 2021). This involves specifying key tasks and emission reduction pathways to facilitate the development of region-specific, balanced, and coordinated roadmaps for reducing agricultural non-CO2 GHG emissions.…”

“…Nguyen et al used the STIRPAT analytical framework to examine the drivers of the ACE in major global economics. They found that trade openness and FDI inflows were beneficial for increasing ACE in the short run, but had negative effects in the long run [19]. Laborge et al established a global CEG model to simulate and estimate the impact of current agricultural support measures on ACE, and found that coupled subsidies made ACE show an increase trend [20].…”
