Determinants for Safety Climate Evaluation of Construction Industry Sites in Saudi Arabia

Abstract: The hazardous nature of the construction industry requires giving increasing attention to safety management and the available means to eliminate or reduce the risks of workers’ injuries. Workers in the construction industry of Saudi Arabia face similar daily risks as workers face in other countries. The safety climate significantly influences safety performance, making research in the field of safety climate a vital step toward raising safety levels at construction sites. This study aims at exploring key compo… Show more

“…Mosly and Makki [45] identified 13 safety-climate-influencing factors in Saudi Arabian construction sites (Table 1). Subsequently, Makki and Mosly conducted an exploratory study [46] that revealed that those influencing factors act as determinants of the safety climate under three key components (safety commitment, safety interaction, and safety support). This study builds upon these previous studies, using their safety climate determinants to explore the set of factors capable of predicting safety climate levels.…”

“…Although the present study has achieved its aim, there are a few recommendations that future studies could focus on. A study on the impact of safety program elements on overall project success by using empirical methods would be of strategic importance, while presenting a country-specific checklist for the successful implementation of health and safety programs, as recommended by [ 70 ], could also offer some practical solutions.…”

“…This disparity in the number and type of SC dimensions is a source of uncertainty among construction researchers and practitioners [34]. However, creating a unified set of SC dimensions has limitations as due to the influences of factors of different countries [35,36]. However, several similarities exist between the findings of many SC studies [37].…”
