“…Inquiries about how likely it is that large corporate data governance can help firms gain a competitive advantage are still very scarce. Emerging research commentaries echoed the possible contributions of corporate data governance through internalized and institutionalized practices, strategic flexibility, and the acquisition of external knowledge in adapting to the ecosystem [1,2]. Raymond et al [2] and Alhassan, Sammon and Daly [4] stated that the concept of data governance equates to corporate assets that have value or potential value. Tallon, Ramirez and Short [5] claimed that corporate data governance can significantly contribute to enhanced decision-making.…”

Concerning ITG, most theories and frameworks have been criticized as being more appropriate to large enterprises and less so to SMEs (Bergeron et al 2015).…”

“…Despite the abundant body of knowledge of ITG and BITA, there is a need for describing and explaining the nature and scope of the relationships between ITG and strategic BITA, as well additional empirical evidence that allows for an integrated understanding of such relationship (De Haes and Van Grembergen 2009; Raymond et al 2019). This leads to the following research questions: What is the impact of ITG practices on BITA?…”

“…For example, Oh and Pinsonneault (2007) find that aligning IT investment in growthorientated applications with business strategy is necessary for SMEs to gain strategic value. Raymond et al (2019) comment that SMEs with the ability to integrate IT strategy with business plans can achieve substantive benefits. Du and Temouri (2015) highlight that the reason why SMEs gain business value from IT is because they employ strategic IT planning for their future.…”
