Determinant of self-management in chronic non-communicable disease among elderly

Abstract

Background: Chronic non-communicable diseases have become health concern in health care system worldwide especially in older people. Managing the disease was crucial in order to improve the quality of life among those older people. Purposes: This study aims to identify the effect of health education in self-management improvement among older people with chronic non-communicable disease. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study. The respondents recruited by using accidental sampling method, and 40 older people participated. The socio-demographics, life-style and self-management extracted by using paper-based questionnaires. Results: predominantly participants were old-old category (55%), women (62.5), middle level of education (50%), household (42.5%), married (67.5%), consume salted fish (80%), salted egg (50%). All socio-demographic and life-style data, statistically show there is no significant impact on self-management of chronic non-communicable diseases among older people. Conclusion: since the study result statistically insignificant, the large sample size may be needed in order to increase the study result.
