“…The success factors for leprosy treatment are influenced by several factors, namely disease detection and early treatment, personal characteristics (age, gender, education, income), knowledge, medication adherence, family support, access to health services, and the role of health workers in providing information (DA, 2012). Leprosy is a chronic infection caused by Mycobacterium leprae which if not treatedimmediately will become progressive. The government has a treatment success target of >90%,but in some areas the effort to eradicate leprosy type MB is still slow [1]. The purpose of this studywas to determine the success factors for the treatment of MB type leprosy in the working area ofthe Jenu Public Health Center, Tuban Regency.The research design used was descriptive, cross sectional time approach. The populationis all patients with leprosy who seek treatment in the working area of the Jenu Public Health Centerfor a cohort period of 76 months (January 2016-April 2022) as many as 35 people, the samplingtechnique used is total sampling. Research instruments in the form of questionnaires andobservation sheetsThe results of the study were obtained from 35 patients with MB type leprosy almostentirely (82.9%) were found without disability, all (100%) immediately received treatment, all(100%) received good family support, all (100%) the role of health workers was good.The success of treatment for leprosy type MB requires support from the family and thesurrounding community, the family is the closest person who can supervise and control thepatient's condition. Treatment of leprosy also requires the role of health workers because healthworkers can provide encouragement to patients, in addition, if the patient has not taken themedicine, the health worker will come to give the medicine. Efforts to find and treat patients withMB type leprosy are very important, for this reason, family and community support are needed sothat there is no feeling of shame and immediately comes to the nearest health servic

Indonesia is in the third position in the world with the most leprosy sufferers after India and Brazil. Leprosy is commonly found in developing countries, as a result of the country's limited ability to provide adequate services in the fields of health, education, and socioeconomic welfare for the community. Dendun Village in Mantang District had the most cases of leprosy, 5 (five) cases in the Bintan Regency area in 2018. The study was used as a qualitative approach with a case study method. Content analysis was used in the analysis process of this research. Testing the results of research used source triangulation by cross-checking data with facts from other sources (informants) and triangulation methods by collecting data through in-depth interviews with informants and reviewing documents. The level of knowledge, negative stigma, adherence to treatment, history of contact with leprosy sufferers, and access to health services were important factors for the existence of leprosy in Dendun Village, Mantang District, Bintan Regency. Patients are expected to comply with the treatment program seriously to prevent transmission, cure, and recovery due to diseases carried out by the Bintan District Health Office and Mantang Puskesmas.

Background: Indonesia is currently contributing to the third highest incidence of leprosy in the world. Leprosy sufferers who do not undergo regular treatment have risk in transmitting the disease to others. Moreover, it may also cause disability problems and social impacts. Objective: This study aims to analyse relationships between drug side effects, subject characteristics and adherence to treatment of leprosy patients.Method: This was an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional research design with a sample of 115 leprosy patients. This study was conducted at four Puskesmas (Community Health Centre) of Sukasari sub-district, Subang from October to December 2021. Its data was collected by using a questionnaire consisting of patient characteristics; the MMAS-8 questionnaire was used to assess levels of the adherence and the side effects. Then the data were analysed by Chi-Square and Fisher's Exact test, with a significance level of 0.05.Results: The results of this study revealed that 60 (52.2%) of the subjects were categorized in the medication adherence with a score of 0 and 22 (19.1%) of them were relatively high adherence with a score of 1-2. Most of the 93.9% of subjects experienced drug side effects while undergoing the leprosy treatment. There was no significant relationship between drug side effects (p=0.442), genders (p=0.848), ages (p=0.275), education levels (p=0.134), types of occupations (p=0.847) and adherence to treatment of leprosy patients. Conclusion: Several factors such as drug side effects, ages, genders, education levels and occupations were not significantly related to medication adherence in the leprosy patients.
