“…Multiplex PCR was performed on 100 samples using primers (Metabion, Germany) targeting the streptokinase precursor, see I and sod A genes as previously described (Alber et al., 2004; Preziuso & Cuteri, 2012; Preziuso et al., 2010), and 16S rRNA was employed as an internal control gene (Osakabe et al., 2006; Table S2). The amplification reaction contained 25 µl of Emerald Amp® GT PCR master mix (Cat.…”

“…9 S. viridans is the most common causative organism in ICK. Others include Gemella haemolysans, 6 Serratia marescens, 7 Borrelia garinii, 8 Candida sp., 2,10 Streptococcus pneumoniae, 10,11 Staphylococcus epidermidis, 11 Acanthamoeba sp., 11 Haemophilus sp., 11 Mycobacterium sp., and 11 peptostreptococcus sp. 12 We present the first case of a patient with A. defectivaassociated crystalline keratopathy, confirmed by microbiologic cultures and PCR.…”

“… 4 , 5 Streptococcus viridans is the most common organism to cause crystal deposits followed by Staphylococcus epidermidis, Streptococcus pneumonia, Haemophilus spp., and enterococci. 15 However, Candida spp. and atypical organisms such as mycobacteria must be kept in mind, especially in immune-suppressed conditions such as patients who use chronic corticosteroids or abuse topical anesthetic eye drops.…”
