Detection of sinkhole attacks for supporting secure routing on 6LoWPAN for Internet of Things

Abstract: The Internet of Things (IoT) networks are vulnerable to various kinds of attacks, being the sinkhole attack one of the most destructive since it prevents communication among network devices. In general, existing solutions are not effective to provide protection and security against attacks sinkhole on IoT, and they also introduce high consumption of resources de memory, storage and processing. Further, they do not consider the impact of device mobility, which in essential in urban scenarios, like smart cities.… Show more

“…In addition to efforts in secure routing there are proposals of detecting devastating attacks in IoT routing, such as in [61] an intrusion detection system to distinguish sinkhole attacks on the IoT routing services is proposed. Experimental evaluations show the effectiveness of the proposed idea.…”

“…Mayzaud et al [64] authors proposed a distributed system architecture for detecting the version number attacks in RPL-based networks and identifies malicious nodes. Furthermore, a number of intrusion detection system architectures have been developed in [70], [71] for the resourceconstrained 6LoWPAN devices based systems focusing on the sinkhole and selective-forwarding attacks (well-known attacks within 6LoWPAN networks).…”
