Detection of Listeria monocytogenes in Several Types of Frozen Meat in Baghdad city

Abstract: Detection of pathogenic bacteria, such as Listeria  monocytogenes, in food is crucial for safeguarding public health in Iraq.  Forty five samples of frozen meat (15 samples of each of minced red meat, chicken, and fish) were collected from different markets in Baghdad city. Molecular (RT-PCR) and culturing (conventional microbiological examination) methods were used to determine the level of contamination of L. monocytogenes in these types of meat. For the culturing method, TSYEB broth was used as an enr… Show more

“…As a result, molecular approaches are rapidly being A Egyptian Journal of Veterinary Sciences https://ejvs.journals.ekb.eg/ adopted as newer, quicker diagnostic tools with improved sensitivity and reproducibility [11][12].Several research have been conducted to identify the bacterium in ovine abortion [13 -15], caprine mastitic and abortion [16], and bovine mastitis [17]. L. monocytogenes was seriously studied in Iraq over the last few years due to their importance as a foodborne human pathogen [18][19], however, until the completion of this investigation, L. ivanovii was not isolated in Iraq. Based on selective plating media, biochemical characterization, and certain virulence associated genes, the current study aimed to shed light on L. ivanovii as one of the causal agents of abortion in sheep flocks in the Iraqi Nineveh province.…”
