Detection of HGV RNA in Digestive Organs

Abstract: The organ where the GB virus (GBV)-C/hepatitis G virus (HGV) localizes and proliferates is not known. We examined the digestive organs for HGV RNA to determine the localization of the HGV. Two cases of patients with serum-positive HGV RNA were investigated. We embedded surgically excised materials and digestive secretion materials from cases 1 and 2 in paraffin blocks. The tissue specimens investigated included lymph nodes No. 201 and 202, ascending colon (nontumor and tumor area), ileocecum, appendix, liver (… Show more

“…Hijikata et al [24] reported that there are no differences in clinical background factors among genotypes 1a, 1b and others. We reported previously the frequency of genotype 1b TTV DNA in non-B, non-C and type C liver diseases at the Nihon University Hospital, which is located in Tokyo [19,20,25].…”

“…In addition, the levels of immunoglobulin G in these patients were less than 2,000 mg/ml. Furthermore, hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA, GB-virus C/hepatitis G virus (GBV-C/HGV) RNA, TT virus (TTV) DNA and SEN-virus (SEN-V) DNA were not detected by nested polymerase chain reaction methods [9][10][11][12]. No heavy drinkers (more than 30 g/day of ethanol intake) were included in the study.…”
