“…The sensitivity of the present ELISA when used with the 1:800 threshold (89%) is similar to, or better than, those of the ELISA used to check children in the U.S.A. (Kossoff, 2003), children (Idris et al, 1984) and adults (Corona et al, 1986;Larralde et al, 1986;Proano-Narvaez et al, 2002) in Mexico, and adults in Chandigarh, India (Kaur et al, 1996). The sensitivity of the present dot-blot assay (also 89%) was similar to that of the dot-blot assay used, on sera, by Plancarte et al (1994) in Mexicoeven though the latter assay was based on a purified GP 24 antigenic fraction, not a crude antigenic extract -and much better than the value (59%) reported for the dotblot assay used, by Tellez-Giron et al (1987), on CSF samples in Mexico.…”

“…Dot-blots have been used for the serodiagnosis of several parasitic infections and can give sensitivities as high as those observed with ELISA, while being rapid and easy to read (Pappas et al, 1983;Brooks et al, 1985;Tellez-Giron et al, 1987;Mahajan et al, 1989). When Tellez-Giron et al (1987) compared the performances of dot-ELISA and standard ELISA, in the detection of Cysticercus cellulosae antigens in samples of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from patients in Mexico, they found both assays to be reasonably sensitive, 100% specific and cost-effective for the routine diagnosis of NCC.…”

“…Their results were promising, particularly in terms of specificity (likely resulting from the use of CSF instead of serum, as detailed above). 129,130 As expected, circulating antigen cannot be demonstrated in the CSF of all NCC patients. Also, only a fraction of all antigens present in the cyst fluid can be detected in the patient's CSF.…”

“…Among the high molecular weight peptides, 131, 128 and 70 kDa peptides were found to be specific in their detection in CSF as recognized by the anti‐somatic antibody. High molecular peptides (66, 190, 230 and 150 kDa) in CSF were also reported to be diagnostic by some other studies . Estrada et al .…”
