Detection of Ascorbic Acid Using a Carbon Fiber Microelectrode Coated with Cobalt Tetramethylpyridoporphyrazine

Abstract: A carbon microfiber electrode coated with an electrodeposited cobalt chelate of a tetra-N-methylpyridoporphyrazinocobalt derivative has been used for the potentiometric detection of ascorbic acid. It is effective over a fairly wide range of ascorbic acid concentration and may have value for in vivo analysis.

“…It has been widely used in foods and drinks as an antioxidant and also for the prevention and treatment of common cold, mental illness, infertility, cancer and AIDS [33,34]. Now-a-days this compound has been the subject of many electrochemical investigations and on the basis of such studies; several methods have been developed for its determination in various samples [35][36][37][38][39][40][41][42].…”

“…The net results of this electron shuttling are a lowering of the overvoltage of analyte oxidation to the formal potential of the mediator and an increase in current density. Different derivatives of hydroquinone (Mazloum-Ardakani et al, 2010b) and transition metal complexes (Amini et al, 2001;Janda et al, 1996;Shahrokhian et al, 2004) are well known as electron mediators or modifiers in the electrocatalytic determination of some important compounds by voltammetric sensors. These modifiers have a high electron transfer rate constant.…”

“…[26][27][28] Hyphenated instruments consisting of flow injection analysis, [29][30][31][32] high performance liquid chromatography [33][34][35] or capillary electrophoresis [36][37][38][39] instruments and a detector are mostly utilized for the determination of Vitamic C. Liquid chromatography is a successful method for vitamin C determination when selectivity and specificity are concerned. [40][41][42] The objective of the present study was to determine the relative bioavailability of synthetic Vitamin C and Nutra-C ® in Korean healthy volunteers.…”
