Detection of Anti-Livin Antibody in Gastrointestinal Cancer Patients

Abstract: mL, and mean arterial pressure was significantly correlated with PHF concentrations [ Fig. 1C; slope, 0.008014 Ϯ 0.003734; y-intercept, Ϫ0.6246 Ϯ 0.3908 units/mL; R ϭ 0.394, P ϭ 0.0417 (significant); n ϭ 27].Our goal was to develop MAbs with high affinities to both the rat and human PHF antigens. The antibodies produced were selective for PHF, as demonstrated in the bioassay and cross-reactivity studies. Results generated with the PHF ELISA to detect PHF in biological samples correlated well with results obtai… Show more

“…In Livin-positive models, antibodies could interfere with the antiapoptoic effects and are expected to increase apoptosis rate. Actually, it was Watanabe et al who detected anti-Livin antibody in gastrointestinal cancer patients (69). In their study, a huge range of cancer patients of different origins, e.g., breast, renal, melanoma, and lung tumors, were positive for anti-Livin antibodies, suggesting that antiLivin antibodies could be useful for detecting these cancers and can serve as a therapeutic approach (70 -72).…”

“…Moreover, the protein level was statistically significantly lower in the CRC patients than in the healthy controls. Yagihashi et al (30) assessed serum survivin in various cancers of the digestive system. Survivin antibodies were noted in 39.7% of all cancers studied, including 33% cases of CRC, hepatoma and esophageal cancer, 40% of gastric cancer cases, 42% of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma cases and 43% of biliary-tract cancer cases.…”

“…Increasing evidence indicates that X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis (XIAP), Survivin and Livin, members of inhibitors of the apoptosis protein (IAP) family, are confirmed to be upregulated in many human type tumors, which, conversely, are partly crucial to the chemoradioresistance. 51,52 Survivin overexpression correlated with poor prognoses in pancreatic cancer patients, as well as in other malignancies. 53 In addition, Survivin is also involved in tumor cell resistance to radiation therapy.…”
