Detection of Abundant Proteins in Multiple Myeloma Cells by Proteomics

et al.

Abstract: Abundant proteins of human multiple myeloma (MM) were globally analyzed and identified by using two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2DE) and MALDI-TOF/TOF mass spectrometry (MS). Spots of 517 corresponding to 268 different proteins were detected on 2DE gels of protein lysate from plasma cells isolated from eight newly diagnosed MM patients. These identified proteins were classified into different categories based on their molecular functions and biological processes. The detailed experimental procedures and M… Show more

“…It is overexpressed in several tumor cells (Morrison, 2009), including MM plasma cells in which it has a possible oncogenic function (Lu et al, 2010). Here, we show that it is also overexpressed in MMECs and MM neovessels.…”

“…In addition, because annexin A1 is upregulated in other cancers, such as pancreatic carcinoma and hairy cell leukemia, development of small molecule inhibitors of annexin A1 may find broad therapeutic applications. In 2010, same authors also published, for the first time, the 2-DE proteome reference map and the phosphoproteome in separated human MM cells [78,79]. Totally 517 selected gel spots corresponding to 268 distinct proteins were detected on 2-DE and identified by MS and database searching.…”

“…The characterized proteins include cytoskeletal protein, chaperone, oxidoreductase, protease, etc. The 2-DE reference map will offer a base for research involved in MM and open the way to investigate the protein changes associated with MM pathogenesis [78].…”

“…Also, the droplets collect small dirt particles while rolling and the lotus leaves stay spotless yet in the drizzle. This hydrophobicity [52] characteristic may be used in the clothing of cotton by layering it by slim nano-particle plasma coating. Selfcleaning fabrics utilize nanocrystals treatment by regulating surface interaction and wettability.…”
