Detection of a novel intermediate in the addition of thiols to osmium carbonyl clusters

Abstract: Spectroscopic studies of the reaction of [Os 3 (CO) 11 MeCN)] with para-thiocresol to form [Os 3 (m-H)(CO) 10 (m-SC 6 H 4 Mep)] indicate that the reaction proceeds via a two-step consecutive process involving the intermediate [Os 3 (CO) 11 -(MeC 6 H 4 SH-p)], in which there is an agostic Os-H-S interaction.

“…Reports on metal–acetonitrile bond enthalpies appear to be scarce, and these mostly deal with acetonitrile exchange . However, our values are comparable to those reported for the dissociation of acetonitrile in Os 3 (CO) 10 (NCCH 3 ) 2 (Δ H ‡ and Δ S ‡ values of 91 kJ mol –1 and 29 J mol –1 K –1 , or 98 kJ mol –1 and 48 J mol –1 K –1 , respectively). italicR .25em ln false[ h normalk / false( K normalB normalT false) false] = normalΔ italicS normalΔ italicH false( 1 / italicT false) …”

“…For instance, dithiocarbamate functionalized diethanolamine (DEA) was employed to alter the AuNP surface, improving its affinity. The DEA is a symmetric compound used to chelate cations [ 242 ]. The synthesized DEA@AuNPs exhibit an adequate selectivity towards lead ions, depending on the coordination of the N and O DEA atoms, with the Pb 2+ cations building a framework.…”

“…Thiols are known to react with homonuclear clusters via oxidative addition across the S-H bond [5]. Interestingly, the reaction involving the cluster Os 3 (CO) 11 (NCCH 3 ) has been reported to proceed via an intermediate with an agostic interaction [6]. In contrast, there appears to have been only one report on the reaction of a heteronuclear carbonyl cluster with thiols [7].…”
