In their area, they had not been able to find VC signs and symbols that reliably indicated the presence of mines and boobytraps. Overall recommendations for stateside training included an increase in the Vietnam orientation of mines and boobytraps training, more hours on the use of the mine detector and more emphasis on maintenance of equipment.
