Breast cancer (BC) is one of the most common diseases in the global population. It most commonly presents in women; however, there has been an increase in the number of men diagnosed with the disease, although at a lower rate. Its specific characteristics and associated risk factors mean that preventative measures are considered to be one of the most important methods of avoiding BC. Therefore, education is a fundamental part of this process. The objective of this study is to report on the educational interventions on BC carried out in healthcare between 2016 and 2021. To this end, an integrative review was carried out using the following databases: PubMed (NCBI), Science Direct, Scopus, SciELO and Google Scholar, using the keywords 'breast cancer', 'intervention education', 'prevention' and the Boolean operator 'AND'. Quantitative, full-text articles in English, Spanish or Portuguese were included. Finally, 19 articles were selected for analysis and it was found that, with regard to educational interventions on BC carried out in healthcare, one article included men and women and the remaining 18 included only women, with interventions carried out in sessions, workshops, in stages and using dynamic techniques. Therefore, there is a pressing need for educational interventions on BC for men and women at all stages of life; however, priority should be given to the young population in order to allow for early prevention. These interventions do not generate costs for the health sector, but they have a positive effect by increasing knowledge and promoting self-care.

Cancer has increased in all the countries of the world and Mexico is no exception. The recognised risk factors for the main types of cancer are reviewed and searched through the Mexican government web pages and cancer prevention programmes to tackle the risk factors in the population. The Mexican government, a member of the World Health Organization, shows that the main approach is an early diagnosis rather than prevention, forgetting that an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure. Effective public programmes should be promoted to reduce preventable risk factors in the population (smoking, nutrition, obesity, diet, environmental toxicity, sedentary lifestyle) and control the non-preventable factors (genetics) if we really want to control the incidence of different types of cancer.

Introducción: Detectar oportunamente el cáncer de mama es posible, mediante intervenciones educativas en autoexploración mamaria. Objetivo: Identificar el impacto de una intervención educativa en el nivel de conocimientos y de la autoeficacia en la autoexploración mamaria, en mujeres de 20 a 54 años, de la Unidad de Medicina Familiar Número 80, de Morelia, Michoacán, México. Metodología: Estudio cuasi experimental, en 100 mujeres de 20 a 54 años de edad, derechohabientes de la Unidad de Medicina Familiar 80, mediante dos cuestionarios, midió nivel de conocimientos y autoeficacia en autoexploración mamaria, respectivamente, antes y después de una intervención educativa sobre autoexploración mamaria. Datos presentados en porcentajes, Chi cuadrada para asociación de variables. Significancia estadística p menor de 0.05. Resultados: Predominó, edad 40-49 años 33%, 55% casadas, 46% empleadas, 31% escolaridad secundaria; nivel alto de conocimientos, pre intervención educativa 82% y post intervención 100%; nivel muy alto de autoeficacia, pre intervención 62% y post intervención 95%. Asociación nivel de autoeficacia pre y post intervención (Chi cuadrada: 32.37, p .001). Conclusiones: Las intervenciones educativas en autoexploración mamaria, generan un impacto positivo, elevando el nivel de conocimientos y autoeficacia, favoreciendo el tamizaje y detección oportuna.
