Detecção de Epstein-Barr vírus no carcinoma da nasofaringe: implicações numa área de baixo risco

Abstract: Several studies have been published concerning Epstein-barr virus (EBV) infection and nasopharyngeal cancer (NPC) development. The incidences of histological types are different according to endemic or non-endemic regions. Latent EBV infection is found in almost all cases of NPC in endemic regions, but normally absent in type I carcinomas, more common in non-endemic regions. Aim:The purpose of this hospital-based study was to analyze the presence of EBV in nasopharyngeal tumor tissues and in peripheral blood o… Show more

“…For EBV detection nested-PCR method was used by primers that used in Breda et al study [34], including 5′-GCGGGTG-GAGGGAAAGG-3′ and 5′-GTCAGC CAAGGGACGCG-3′ for the first PCR round as well as 5′-GCCACCTGGCAGCCCTAAAG-3′ and 5′-AGGC TGCCCACCCTGAGGAT-3′ for the second PCR round [34]. Ten nM of each primer (Metabion, Germany), 2X Taq Master Mix, 1 μg of template DNA, and water at a final volume of 25 μl.…”

“…Nevertheless, direct oncoviruses, such as EBV, HPV or KSHV, have also been linked with inflammatory immune responses. In the case of EBV, the viral protein LMP-1 activates signaling via the PI3K/Akt, the JAK/STAT and the NFκB pathway induces cancer cell hallmarks and, in that regard, tumor-promoting inflammation [96][97][98]. Furthermore, EBERs, viral RNA transcripts, activate the IL6/STAT3 pathway and induce IL6, IL9, IL10 and IGF-1, which promote inflammation and growth [99,100].…”

“…Similar results were obtained in a number of studies done on patients of NPC especially from non-endemic regions. (22)(23)(24)(25)(26)(27) Sino-nasal carcinomas are neoplasms arising in the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses. (28) Sinonasal carcinomas are strongly associated with EBV in Chinese patients but not in western patients.…”
