Abstract. The conversion electron spectrum of the decay of 152Eum (9.3 h) has been specially investigated for E0 transitions with the aid of a magnetic spectrometer and coincidence techniques. Besides the known E0 transitions of 685 keV in 152Sm and 615 keV in 152Gd two further pure E0 transitions of 432 keV and 1048 keV have been observed. It is shown that these E0 transitions are identical with those observed previously in the decay of 152Tb. No E0 transitions could be found from a 0 ~ state of 1083 keV in 152Sm. The measured intensities together with the gamma spectrum measured by Barrette et al. give a consistent decay scheme of 152Eum. Furthermore the half-life of the 0 + level at 615 keV in 152Gd was measured using the method of "delayed coincidences". The result was (0.2

Abstract. After bombardments of enriched 152Sm with 14-MeV neutrons, three isomers of ~ s 2 Pm, produced by the (n, p) reaction, have been observed with half-lives of 4.2 _+ 0.2 min, 7.5+0.2min and 15.0+ 1.0 rain. Sources of pure 4.2-rain ~S2pm were obtained by separating the promethium from its parent ll-min 152Nd produced by thermal-neutron induced fission of 235U. The beta and gamma radiations of the 4.2-min 152pm have been investigated using semiconductor and scintillation spectrometers. Most of the y-ray transitions could be placed in a level scheme for ~SZSm. Especially interesting is a level at 1 083 keV for which the assignment U =0 + is proposed. In a 4g/~ 7 experiment, the ground state feeding of 152Sm in the /~--decay of the 4.2-rain ~52Pm has been measured to be 61 o/o of all/%ray transitions. A Q/j-value of 3.4 + 0.2 MeV has been obtained.

AbstractThe steps needed to transform the polychromatic 152 Eu, t 1/2 = 13,525(14) y, γ-ray source into a standard for efficiency calibration of HPGe detectors have been developed. Through γ-γ coincidence measurements of the 152 Eu decay, 4 levels were placed in the 152 Sm scheme, one new, and 36 transitions, 25 in the 152 Sm and 11 in 152 Gd, where 23 were observed for the first time. The influence of secondary detection effects in the peak areas were evaluated and the corresponding models have been experimentaly checked. Peak-area formulas have been derived from the efficiencies and decay parameters: branching ratios, beta feeding fractions, transition multipolarities and internal conversion coefficients. The experimental data from the γ-ray singles spectrum were fitted by the Least-Squares Method, providing estimates for the branching ratios and beta feeding fractions for the level schemes of 152 Sm and 152 Gd, allowing the calculation of the intensities and statistical correlations of the most intense gamma transitions following the 152 Eu decay.
