Desulfurization of Flue Gas: SO2 Absorption by an Ionic Liquid

Abstract: The ionic liquid, (IL) 1,1,3,3‐tetramethylguanidinium lactate, can absorb SO2 from simulated flue gas effectively under ambient conditions (see scheme). Absorbed SO2 can be desorbed under vacuum or by heating, and the IL can be reused. This absorption method might be used for cleaning gases that contain SO2.

“…Two potential sources of submicron nss-K + are mining activities in Regions 1 and 4, particularly potash mining (e.g., Orris et al, 2014), and sweetening of gas flaring emissions by KCO 3 . Amine solutions are also used to reduce acid gas emissions during gas flaring (e.g., Rochelle, 2009;Wu et al, 2004), and that may be a factor in the modest association of amine groups with Regions 1467. The strength of the correlations of nss-K + decreases from winter to spring as the relative time over these regions decreases (Fig.…”

“…The calorimeter with special characteristics of high sensibility (70 µW/µV) and very high stability (less than ± 20µW over several days) was used in isothermal mode up to 80 °C in a temperature controlled room at 19.5 ± 0.1 °C. The gas flow was controlled by Brooks mass-flow meters calibrated for SO 2 and Ar, respectively, at a sufficiently low flow not disturbing the heat flow of the calorimeter.…”
