Desorption and Re-Adsorption of Procion Red MX-5B Dye on Alumina-Activated Carbon Composite

Abstract: The alumina-activated carbon has the ability to adsorb and desorb the procion red MX-5B. The research evaluated the influence of desorption agent, contact time, and temperature on desorption process of procion red MX-5B dye with alumina-activated carbon composite and the adsorption capacity of the composite after desorption process. The desorption agents used in desorption process were solution with pH 2−10, H2O2 30 % (v/v), methanol 70% (v/v) and ethanol 70% (v/v) 2-10, H2O2 30% (v/v), metanol 70% (v/v) dan… Show more

“…The incombustible mineral content of the Al 2 O 3 /OSW composite material is low as confirmed by the ash content value (5.20%), and the pH zpc of the studied composite (7.8) is slightly basic which can be compared to the value of 7.4 reported by Hariani et al 23 for alumina-activated carbon composite.…”

“…15,21,22 The lucrative use of onion skin requires modification without severely damaging its structure. However, metal oxides such as aluminium oxide (Al 2 O 3 ) and silicon oxide (SiO 2 ) could be used to modify the structure of adsorbent owing to their better textural properties, mechanical and thermal stabilities 23,24 The application of Al 2 O 3 modified onion skin waste for the removal of heavy metals from aqueous solution is still not well known.…”

“…respectively. The reason for the reduction in regeneration efficiency is probably due to the repeated desorption process on the LLAC-3 adsorbent, which decreased its adsorption capacity (Fatma, Hariani, Riyanti, & Sepriani, 2018). In addition, several metal ions cannot be separated from the adsorbent due to the saturation of the active centres of the adsorbent by Cr(VI) ions.…”

“…The promising use of onion skin requires a modification without severely damaging its structure. However, metal oxides, such as an aluminium oxide (Al 2 O 3 ) and silicon oxide (SiO 2 ), could be used to modify the structure of the adsorbent due to their better textural properties, mechanical and thermal stabilities [26,27]. The application of Al 2 O 3 modified onion skin waste for the removal of heavy metals from aqueous solution is still not well explored.…”
