Desmoplastic Fibroma of the Mandible in an Infant: A Case Report

Abstract

Desmoplastic fibroma (DF) is rare benign bone tumor affecting primarily the long bones and the mandible. Mandibular or the maxillary DF usually occurs in young adults and is more common in the second and third decades of life. Bone destruction may progress with a tendency to invade the surrounding soft tissues. In this case report, we define the clinical, radiological, and histological features of a rare case of DF of the mandible in an Eleven-months-old male. The management of the lesion consisted of mandibular resection and immediate reconstruction with rib graft. Good healing, no evidence of recurrence, excellent esthetic and functional results after Six months follow up. We hope that our case report will shed new light on this special entity.
