Designing Phenyl Porous Organic Polymers with High-Efficiency Tetracycline Adsorption Capacity and Wide pH Adaptability

Abstract: Adsorption is an effective method to remove tetracycline (TC) from water, and developing efficient and environment-friendly adsorbents is an interesting topic. Herein, a series of novel phenyl porous organic polymers (P-POPs), synthesized by one-pot polymerization of different ratios of biphenyl and triphenylbenzene under AlCl3 catalysis in CH2Cl2, was studied as a highly efficient adsorbent to removal of TC in water. Notably, the obtained POPs possessed abundant phenyl-containing functional groups, large spec… Show more

“…As shown in Figure 1 d, the thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) curve was measured in air at a heating rate of 10 °C min −1 . The first weight loss of the as-synthesized JJU-2 is about ~3.1% before ~330 °C, which may be attributed to the adsorbed water and other solvent molecules as the previous similar reports [ 52 , 53 ]. At higher temperatures, the skeleton gradually decomposes because of the oxygen reactions of C, N, and H elements in the air.…”

“…They are, however, susceptible to hydrolysis upon prolonged exposure to moisture, and therefore the use of anhydrous solvents and nitrogen atmosphere was critical to the reaction. Both POPs were found to be insoluble in water and various organic solvents; this observation is a promising initial indication of network formation, as the degree of cross-linking is inversely linked to solubility …”

The N−H stretch associated with the presence of primary amines from the Py-TA aniline groups is observed at 3380 cm −1 in the FTIR (Figure 1A).…”
