Designing a program evaluation for a medical‐dental service for adults with autism and intellectual disabilities using the RE‐AIM framework

Abstract: Introduction Robust evaluation of service models can improve the quality and efficiency of care while articulating the models for potential replication. Even though it is an essential part of learning health systems, evaluations that benchmark and sustain models serving adults with developmental disabilities are lacking, impeding pilot programs from becoming official care pathways. Here, we describe the development of a program evaluation for a specialized medical‐dental community clinic serving a… Show more

“…Family caregivers often experience considerable demands associated with the complex needs of caregiving, which can add to mental health challenges. This includes having to provide ongoing care (Singer, 2006), to act as therapists, advocates, navigators, or teachers in providing supports, and to manage high rates of child and adolescent behavioral difficulties (Lai et al, 2019; Muskens et al, 2017), while balancing their own needs (i.e., career) and family (i.e., siblings and other dependents) responsibilities (Shorey et al, 2020).…”

“…It is critical considering the flaws in the official accounting papers when analyzing and evaluating the preventative and therapeutic activity results to lower the frequency of conditions amongst the people in the dental profile [22,23]. As a result, the work outcomes are summarized every year by creating an analytical assessment of the Voronezh Region's dental service [24,25]. This research allows a dentist operating in outpatient clinics to develop a measure to manage their work and handling the health care vertical at a regional level.…”

“…In both of these approaches, the lines between research and practice blur, either because researchers are also actively working to advance the system they are studying or because evaluators are purposefully embedded in the action-oriented endeavor (Patton, 2011). Evaluation includes frequent review of progress that informs continued work (Lai et al, 2019). In such approaches, advocates, practitioners across social work and other disciplines, and/or researchers in a change coalition may together identify the most relevant research or evaluative questions.…”
