As expected, the combined model outperforms the traditional coupling model, as it can clearly distinguish the two incoming signals. CONCLUSIONSThis Letter has proposed a combined model to describe the response of an antenna array in the presence of both mutual coupling and platform effects. The mutual coupling between the array elements is described by a coupling matrix. In addition, the platform effect is approximated with the use of the point-scatterer model. An algorithm has been proposed based on matching pursuit to determine the model coefficients. Numerical results show that the active element patterns reconstructed from the model are in good agreement with the actual data. The main attractiveness of the new model is that it provides physical insights into the coupling and scattering mechanisms. By parametrizing the active element patterns with the use of the proposed model, one can locate the position and strength of the dominant point scatterers that give rise to platform scattering.
